How it all began

Rosie Smith, founder of The BraSmith, began as a costume maker for stage and screen, working with actors, dancers and singers of all shapes and sizes. She has done all sorts from adjusting someone’s wedding dress all the way up to creating a super-suit for a Hollywood A-lister. In all these experiences, it became abundantly clear that we have one thing in common: bras are a pain in the… well… breasts. Some of us endure uncomfortable bras all day, ripping them off as soon as we get home, while others have given up on wearing bras altogether.
Whilst we support the right for anyone to go unsupported, we don’t think anyone should be forced down this route simply because they have given up on finding a bra that fits.
‘After many years of listening to friends and family battle with their bras as well as my own struggles with an ample bosom, I wanted to create bras that were quirky and fun but still offered comfort and support. Everyone has the right to feel secure, sexy and supported by the underwear they choose to wear. The biggest complaint I heard over and over again was that the underwires dug in, so instead of making a bra and hoping people fit into it, I make the bra to fit the person.’
Rosie wanted to provide a space where everyone’s needs would be met, and where it was OK to ask questions. Here at The BraSmith, we are committed not only to style but also to treating our customers as individuals with your own needs and personal preferences that fast fashion simply cannot cater for.
Slow fashion is a growing market, with many realising that investing in a well-crafted piece of clothing is more sustainable and ethical than buying cheap garments that come at a high cost for our planet and the workers making them. Our bras are made in our West London studio by skilled workers using natural, biodegradable fibres. We embrace an ethos of no waste, offering our leftover fabrics for limited availability to those who want a truly unique garment. And we are constantly looking for ways to become a more sustainable label while still offering the same amazing service to you, our customers.
